If a pet is later exposed to the actual disease, their immune system is ready to recognize and either fight it off completely or lessen the severity of the illness.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Core Vaccines<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Core pet vaccines are essential vaccinations that protect pets from serious and highly contagious diseases. They&#8217;re recommended for almost all pets, regardless of their lifestyle or risk of disease.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Core Vaccines for Dogs<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The following core vaccines are recommended for all puppies and dogs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rabies<\/li>\n<li>Distemper<\/li>\n<li>Parvovirus<\/li>\n<li>Leptospirosis<\/li>\n<li>Canine Adenovirus Type 2 (CAV-2)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Non-core Vaccines for Dogs<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Non-core vaccines are those that are not required, but are recommended or required only for certain purposes. Boarding, grooming or obedience training are good examples.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We may recommend additional vaccinations based on your pet\u2019s lifestyle and environment, as well as where your pet travels.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Non-core Vaccines for Dog include:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Bordetella<\/li>\n<li>Lyme disease<\/li>\n<li>Rattlesnake<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Core Vaccines for Cats<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Core vaccines for kittens and adult cats, as recommended by the <a href=\"https:\/\/catvets.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Feline Veterinary Medical Association (FelineVMA)<\/a>, currently include the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rabies<\/li>\n<li>Panleukopenia virus<\/li>\n<li>FeLV (Feline leukemia virus)<\/li>\n<li>FHV-1 (Feline viral rhinotracheitis, also known as herpes virus type 1)<\/li>\n<li>Feline caliciviruses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Non-core Vaccines for Cats<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Non-core (optional vaccines), as recommended by the FelineVMA for cats with a risk of exposure to specific diseases, include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chlamydophila felis (causes feline chlamydiosis)<\/li>\n<li>Bordetella bronchiseptica (causes feline bordetellosis)<\/li>\n<li>Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) in adult cats<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Timing and Frequency of Vaccinations<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many vaccines can (and should) be administered as early as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lonetreevet.com\/blog\/66-2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6 weeks of age<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Puppies receive boosters every 3 to 4 weeks until 16 weeks of age, which is the point when there is no longer any maternal antibody interference from the mother.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adult Dogs<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Some veterinarians administer certain vaccines annually to adult dogs, while they give other vaccines every three years or longer.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adult Cats<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Veterinarians may revaccinate adult cats annually or every three years.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Local Laws on Mandatory Vaccines<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Each state has its own laws regarding the administration of the rabies vaccine.
